Pick where your users sign up. We count them ourselves with the least access that can do it, and a database is only ever read through a read-only login. UserCount is open source, so you can read every request we make.

Postgres
  1. Name the table that holds one row per user and its id column.
  2. Copy the SQL and run it once as an admin. It creates a read-only user that can see that one column, nothing else.
  3. Paste the connection string to this database.

Read-only access

The login can see one column of one table and nothing else, and your own password never reaches us.

The only request we makeRead the code
SELECT count("id") FROM "users";

Run it once as an admin in any SQL client. The user can see this one column and nothing else.

We connect as usercount_reader, the read-only user from the SQL above.

If your database only accepts known addresses, allow ours: 208.77.244.242, 152.55.184.241, 152.55.185.190.
